Become a family mediator and help separating couples, families and children through one of the most difficult times in their lives. Our professional training will give you the skills needed to manage mediations with ease and provide support to all involved. Our program is rigorous and accredited, so you can be assured that you’re learning from the best in the field. Our training is delivered by experienced professionals who will provide you with all the guidance and support you need to make the most of this challenging but rewarding field.

The Family (Separating Couples) Mediation Training Programme is designed for Mediators who have successfully completed an MII recognised Certified Mediation Training Programme or similar certified programmes which meet the MII criteria. The training is a requirement for members of the MII who wish to practice as separating couples’ mediators. The training consists of 8 online 4-hour sessions and 1 in-person full day session. Learners will be required to complete additional work outside of classroom time to fulfil assessment requirements. Learners should allow 28 hours for self-directed study.

Ber Barry Murray

Ber is an advanced accredited mediator with the Mediators Institute of Ireland, with 20 years experience as an active mediator, having qualified in the Family Mediation Service in 2000.
In addition to her extensive work in mediating with families, she is on the Council of MII, with responsibility for the family sector. She has led the team who developed the template and guidelines on Separation Mediation Settlements;Parenting Mediation Settlements and Child Support Mediation Settlements.

Ber is on the panel of assessors for Advanced Mediators with MII, on the panel of mediators for the Medical Council, and panels for mediation in some of the large universities. She has mediated cases in family separation/divorce, child issues (both direct and indirect work with children), foster and family law cases.

Ber designed the family separating couples mediation training for MII in 2010 and has delivered this programme since that time. She is currently involved in the revision of this course. She brings extensive experience to the training in working with families, and delivers a practical applied programme through case study application.

The Family (Separating Couples) Mediation Training Programme is designed for Mediators who have successfully completed an MII recognised Certified Mediation Training Programme or similar certified programmes which meet the MII criteria.
This training is a requirement for members of the MII who wish to practice as separating couples' mediators. Those applying for this course, must be eligible for MII membership, have applied for such membership and been informed by MII that they are eligible for membership. A learner who is not an active member of the MII at the time of doing a 40 hour programme may not apply retrospectively to have that training recognised by the MII. Their membership would be expected to be Member (having completed an MII 60 hour training programme and passed their assessment). For a person to have the 40 hour training recognised by the MII, they have to be a member of the MII at the time of doing the course.
This training is mandatory for MII Members who wish to practice separating couples' mediation. Doing an MII 60 hour course and passing the assessment does not mean a person will join the MII - nor does the MII oblige a person to do that. The MII has no obligation to any person until such time as they are a paid up member. Recognition of mandatory training only applies to those who are members when they undertake that training.
