Spring 2024 – Certified Mediation Training – Accredited by the Mediator’s Institute of Ireland

The RoundTable certified mediation training programme, accredited by the Mediator’s Institute of Ireland, offers you the opportunity to train as a mediator. Over the course of three months, you will gain an understanding of conflict, alternative dispute resolution, mediation legislation and the transformative, facilitative and evaluative models of mediation. You will learn the skills and techniques of mediation, explore your style of mediation and apply your learning in simulated mediation situations, culminating in your preparation to go forward for assessment to become a certified mediator with the Mediators Institute Ireland.

What the programme offers

This blended learning programme (classroom and online) is guided through module based work, providing you with the skills and knowledge to understand the theories, models and areas of mediation, the mediation act, understanding and managing conflict in mediation, the skills of the mediator, the mediation process, and practical experience through role plays for both online and in person mediations. This course is a blended learning course with 6 online sessions, delivered through Zoom, and
4 full days of classroom work. Classroom training will take place in a Cork City Venue. The

Assessment

Assessment occurs during the training days on understanding, participation and evidence through role play of acquired skills. In addition, learners will engage in a continuous cycle of self-observation and self-evaluation. Learners are required to complete a Conflict Assignment (2500 words) .This assignment is evaluated by the trainers and is used to assess participants’ integration of skills and knowledge throughout the training. 

To become a certified mediator with the Mediator’s Institute of Ireland, participants must go forward for certification. This certification is a video recorded assessment where the participant demonstrates the core mediation skills through role play of a simulated workplace conflict. For those who wish to be assessed for MII certification, assessments will occur on the 28th and 29th May 2024 (Learners will be required to be available for one of these days. Assessments are undertaken by an independent assessor and will take place through in person / face to face sessions)

Ber Barry Murray

Ber Barry Murray

Ber is an advanced mediator with the Mediators Institute of Ireland and the International Mediators Institute, with 20 years’ experience working as mediator, having qualified in 2000. She has mediated complex disputes nationally and internationally, assisting those who are party to the mediation in arriving at a resolution. The breadth of mediations undertaken, includes workplace, family, commercial, education, medical, financial, succession and land disputes.

Ber is a member of Council of the Mediators Institute Ireland, and is the family sector representative and on the accreditation committee.

In addition to being a Mediator, she holds a master’s degree in education and a law degree. She has trained mediators since 2004 at certified level; for the family sector and has trained and supervised mediators to become practicing mediators. She delivers a practical applied programme

Applications are invited from those thinking of starting out in mediation or those who are interested in acquiring the specialised skills of mediation and incorporating them into their work. This course has been particularly favourited by HR Managers, Supervisors, Legal & HR Advisers, public service groups, volunteer based groups, and more. In line with theories of adult learning, trainees will be encouraged to relate their acquired knowledge to experiential situations.
• Hours in training: 60 hours

• Self-directed Hours required outside training: minimum 20 hours

• Full attendance required.
